Our top 10 places in the world to visit
Here are 10 places that make our heart beat just a little faster.
No.
This is not necessarily about our top 10 cities.
But about a top 10 places in the world to visit!
There are of course more that 10 beautiful places in this world.
Which to pick to make a top 10?
The following top 10 places in the world to visit are places that we visited personally.
Here we go!
Top 10 places in the world to visit
1) Iguazu, Brazil
What is the biggest waterfall in the world?
Not Niagara Falls in Canada or Angel Falls in Venezuela. ‘Biggest’ doesn’t mean the highest here, but the entire waterfall system. Iguazu falls is where the Iguazu river comes crashing down in over 250 falls in total, in both Brasil and Argentina.
We booked a helicopter flight to fly over the entire Iguazu area and it is simply jaw dropping. Only then we realised how huge it is.
Absolutely worth it.

2) Antarctica
We spent 10 days in Antarctica and loved every minute of it.
The beautiful scenery, the quiet nature, the wildlife. Visiting Antarctica is the best trip we have ever done. It is so peaceful and the snowy mountains and blue icebergs floating by are humbling.
Watching a pod of killer whales swim right next to our cabin balcony is a moment we will never forget.
An amazing experience.
3) Porquerolles, France
An island with white sandy beaches and blue sea?
You don’t necessarily have to go to the Caribbean or Seychelles. You will also find it in the mediterranean, close to the French city of Toulon.
You get to Porquerolles by ferry or private boat. Rent bicycles and ride around the island in the shade of the pine trees. There are numerous little quiet bays with stunning sea views.
Stay a night in Porquerolles and see how after 5pm the island changes when the last ferry with tourists is gone. Locals come out to play pétanque on the Place d’Armes square and sip a glass of rosé wine on a bench in the evening sun.
4) Damme, Belgium
Damme is a small town close to Bruges and if you ask us, it is just as beautiful.
A hidden gem very few tourists know about.
Damme’s rich history goes back to the 12th century. Rent a bike in Bruges and enjoy a 6 kilometre ride along the quiet canals in the typical Flemish countryside. You might spot a windmill here and there. Enjoy lunch in one of Damme’s local brasseries. And if you are in for a fantastic culinary break, we recommend famous restaurant Siphon.
Damme makes a perfect day trip if you are staying a couple of days in Bruges.
5) Victoria Peak, Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of our most favorite cities.
It is mesmerising. The noises, the smells, the hustle and bustle, the traffic, the humidity. It has many beautiful places and panoramas. However one that you should definitely not miss out on is Victoria Peak on the western half of Hong Kong Island. It is over 500 metres high and gives visitors a breathtaking 360 degree view of the city below.
Absolutely stunning.
6) Taormina, Italy
On the hilltops of Sicily’s east coast sits the town of Taormina.
That in itself already sounds great. Hang on, Taormina is famous for its Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theatre.
We quite unexpectedly visited Taormina while we were on a cruise. One thing is certain, the theatre on those high hills offers one of the greatest sweeping views on the blue mediterranean sea.
And that is not all. You can perfectly see Mount Etna in the background, an active volcano.
The theatre is still used today for opera and rock concerts.
7) Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Angkor Wat was rediscovered in 1860.
It used to be the the capital city and heart of Angkor’s flourishing Khmer empire until its demise in the 15th century. It is located six kilometres north of Siem Reap.
This temple complex is huge. It took us 3 days to visit it. We recommend renting bikes to ride around. Again, this place is huge.
Really huge.
What we also recommend is to visit Angkor Wat with a guide on the first day. Quite a lot of facts, history and anecdotes about the Khmer empire and temples we got to know is stuff we didn’t read online or in our tourist guide when we were doing a little background research.
8) Antelope Canyon, USA
Gorgeous hypnotising orange sand caves.
You definitely have seen pictures of Antelope Canyon before. We were visiting Arizona a couple of years ago and we put this famous spot on our to do list.
Is it really as stunning as on the pictures? Or is it a tourist trap? Believe us, Antelope Canyon is just as real and mind blowing as you would expect. These epic geological formations are the result of eroded Navajo sandstone.
As you walk through it, you fell like being in an orange whirlwind. And behind every corner is yet another even more beautiful view.
Highly recommendable.
9) Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
Sail on calm blue water and get blown away by the spectacular seascape of 1600 limestone rocky islands.
Ha Long Bay is Unesco World Natural Heritage, and with good reason. It is situated in the Gulf of Tonkin and about a 3 hour drive from Hanoi, Vietnam.
We booked a night on a boat in Ha Long Bay and were blown away by an amazing and unique sunset.
10) Grand Canyon, USA
We have visited quite a few national parks in the USA.
However the Grand Canyon still is our absolute favorite. We might be biased here because we spent a couple of nights on the banks of the Colorado river at the bottom of the canyon camping.
Standing on Grand Canyon’s North Rim or South Rim and looking at the stunning rocky landscape in front of you makes you truly feel like you are standing on top of the world.
And if you can, stay to watch the sunset move along the orange rock flanks.
And more?

I read this Blog I think this will be the best information for me. Come back from bus tours from nyc. Then I will enjoy Grand Canyon trip.
I was not too crazy about iguazu. I like Anguilla; Cap Juluca hotel. Probably the most beautiful beach in the world; like a bathtub with a view of Saba. I agree about Taormina. I like ischia and Ravello. Agree about grand Canyon.
