Review: Hotel Room Mate Filippo in Rome, Italy
Located in the heart of busy Rome, hotel Room Mate Filippo offers a quiet place to stay. Comfortable rooms and friendly staff, the perfect combo!
This time we wanted to explore yet another neighbourhood, and we went for the bustling Municipio I area where you can find the famous Trevi fountains for instance.
After some research hotel Room Mate Filippo seemed to be a good fit for us.
The reviews were good, which is always a good start.
We also stayed in a few Room Mate hotels in other cities and were always pleased with the room and service we got.

We made a video of our stay at hotel Room Mate Filippo.
You can watch it here:
Location
Hotel Room Mate Filippo is located in a quiet one way side street of piazza Barberini.
From the Fiumicino airport it takes about 45 minutes by taxi to get there.
You can also travel by train from the airport to Rome’s Termini station and hop on the metro. The hotel is just 2 stops further. Take the orange A metro line from Termini and get off at Barberini, the closest metro stop from Room Mate Filippo. From there it is just a 3 minute walk.
The hotel is located in an area with plenty of wine bars, shops, supermarkets and good restaurants.
The nearest pharmacy is a minute away, right on the corner of piazza Barberini.
It also provides covid quick tests and certificates – which came in handy since we had a cruise booked after our Rome trip and we needed a negative test certificate to get onboard the ship.
Parking
Hotel Room Mate Filippo has no parking lot.
The nearest public parking is 2 streets away and is called Parcheggio Ludovisi located at Via Ludovisi, 60.
Reception
Checkin starts at 2pm, checkout is at 12pm.
We arrived around 5pm from the Fiumicino airport and were welcomed by the fabulous receptionist Guilia.
She offered us a welcome drink, a glass of prosecco that was brought to our room on our request while completing our checkin.
Guilia provided us with plenty of information about the hotel and breakfast times.
She gave us a couple of restaurant recommendations nearby and called to make a dinner reservation for us at restaurant La Botte Antica right around the corner (great typical Roman restaurant by the way).
Professional and friendly, great start!
The reception area also has a sitting area with coloured glass windows. Behind both sides are outdoor sitting areas where smoking is allowed.
On a small table 2 types of flavoured waters and glasses are provided for guests, nice.
Bar and lounge
On the same level in the back the hotel behind the elevators is another sitting area slash library.
Here you can relax, read or work.
In the afternoon up until late at night an honesty bar is set up for guests to take. Enjoy the drinks and snacks you want, just fill in what you took and your room number.
It will be charged to your room and added to your invoice when you check out.
Room
We booked a double superior room with breakfast.
Upon checkin we received keycards for room 102 on the first floor.
Already at first sight the room looks nice.
The soft carpet on the floor gives it a very cozy feeling.
On the walls behind the bed are large mirrors. The greyish color tones and soft lights make it look very enjoyable and stylish.
On the wall opposite is a large flatscreen TV.
Next to it is a desk and chair, and a coffee and tea corner with fridge.
In the little hallway towards the bathroom is a small wardrobe with safe and slippers.
Room Mate Filippo also provides a laundry service.
We loved the very comfortable bed and mattress.
Even the pillow were perfect for us, not too soft nor too hard.
We stayed here 3 nights and slept very well.
The windows in our room overlooked a quiet private garden and patio.
Bathroom
The bathroom is located in the back of the room.
We asked for a room with shower only – and we got what we asked for.
The materials used give the bathroom quite a cold look: metal, marble, tiles and old fashioned porcelain tap levers. But it was very functional and spacious.
The shower was excellent, just the right size. The water pressure of the rain shower was great. In the shower are 3 dispensers with excellent shampoo, hair conditioner and shower gel.
The window in the back opens to another private courtyard.
Towels were soft and changed daily.
The bath products on the sink were of a good quality and fragrant.
Yes, we liked it a lot.
Always great to come back from a good walk in the city and be able to take a well deserved hot shower in a comfortable bathroom!
Other facilities
In the room next to the desk is coffee and tea set with cups, a kettle, instant coffee, tea bags, sugar and creamer.
The bottle of water is complimentary.
At an extra charge: a fully stocked mini bar with soft drinks, wine, prosecco, beer and small alcoholic drinks – and a selection of instant noodles, candy, biscuits and crisps.
Gym
Hotel Room Mate Filippo has a small gym room.
You can find it at level -1 on the left side when you get out of the elevator.
Just follow the signs to get there.
Breakfast
Breakfast at Room Mate Filippo is served on level -1.
It consists of a self service buffet.
On the buffet: breads, toast and pastries, pancakes, cake, yogurts, cheeses, charcuterie, fruits, cereal, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, grilled vegetables, turkey sausage, really excellent crispy bacon (yum!), jams, honey, Nutella etc.
A good breakfast to start the day!
And the coffee was great as well.
The breakfast staff is very friendly and helpful.
Watch our video above from 4:00 onwards to see what breakfast looks like.
Rooftop view
Take the elevator up to level 6.
Room Mate Filippo’s rooftop treats you to a great view over Rome.
You can see the typewriter (Vittorio Emanuele II monument) and the Vatican.
And just the eclectic collection of Rome’s rooftops all around you.
A must!
Wifi
Wifi reception was very good and fast everywhere in hotel Room Mate Filippo.
Would we go back to hotel Room Mate Filippo?
Yes!
If we would like to stay in that neighbourhood again, we would go back here.
We loved the location, the comfortable and quiet rooms and nice breakfast.
Would we recommend hotel Room Mate Filippo?
Absolutely.
Excellent quality vs price ratio.
We paid about 300 euros per night, breakfast included.
A reasonable price for Rome, also taking into account that we went to Rome during one of the busiest times of the year, Easter weekend.
