Review: the Kimpton Everly Hotel in Los Angeles, USA
Close to Sunset Boulevard and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Kimpton Everly Hotel is perfectly located if you want to explore this side of LA.
And we are back on solid ground.
We just ended a 12 day Alaskan cruise on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner cruise ship.
But instead of flying straight back home to Europe, we decided to stay a couple of extra days in LA to explore the city and stay at the Kimpton Everly Hotel.
Kimpton Hotels is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, or IHG Hotels & Resorts.
We disembark around 10am and after about an hour we finally are able to catch a Uber ride to the hotel.
A little less than an hour later we arrive, unload our luggage and walk in.
Let’s see how our stay was!
We paid for our stay at the Kimpton Everly Hotel in LA and didn’t get or ask anything in return for this review.
Video
We made a video of our stay at the Kimpton Everly Hotel in LA.
You can watch it here:
Kimpton Everly Hotel in LA
The Kimpton Everly Hotel is located in a seemingly quiet part of LA.
However you couldn’t tell that the glamorous Hollywood scene is right around the corner.
The hotel is one block north of the famous Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Dolby Theatre and the iconic Capitol Records Building. Also close are the Hollywood Hills, Griffith Park, the Griffith Observatory, The Greek Theatre and the Hollywood Sign.
Also the LA Zoo and Universal Studios are not too far away.
Parking
On site parking is valet and is not included in the room rate.
The hotel parking entrance is located on the right side of the Kimpton Everly Hotel entrance.
Rates are $54 plus tax for overnight parking, daytime parking costs $20 plus tax.
EV charging stations are present and based on availability.
Reception
We arrive at the hotel around 12pm.
Check in is at 3pm and check out time is at 12pm.
We do silently hope that our room is ready though, it is always nice to being able to put your bags in your room immediately and use the bathroom or change before going out to explore the city the rest of the day.
So we check in, and the (very) friendly lady behind the reception desk confirms that were are indeed lucky because our room is available. She gives us some extra information about the hotel, the bar and restaurant.
We get our room keys and head for the elevators.

Lounge
As you step inside, on the left hand side of the entrance is a spacious lounge.
The large glass windows make the light flow in and brighten it all up. Couches, chairs and coffee tables are everywhere.
There is also a large table to sit at and a pool table.
It is a great space to sit, read, plan your visit or just wait for your Uber or Lyft ride to turn up.
One thing we really didn’t like here was the bad acoustics, it is very noisy even with very little people sitting here and hard to have a conversation. We found that sitting in that separate cube like area was a little better.
What we did appreciate was the daily hosted evening social hour, from 5pm to 6pm where you can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine from the The Ever Lounge Bar. The wines were good and quite generous.
A nice way to start the evening!

Room
The Kimpton Everly Hotel has 204 guest rooms and 12 guest suites starting from the 5th until the 15th floor.
Our Essential King Room with City View with number 1017 is located on the 10th floor.

Bedroom
You step into the room and it is the window that draws you in.
Room 1017 is located on the entrance and pool side of the hotel.
From up here you have a wide city view over this part of LA and if the smog isn’t too bad you should see downtown LA as well. Only building we recognise are the Sunset Bronson Studios ICON Office Tower where Netflix is located now.
Capitol Records should be somewhere on our right behind another building.
The bedroom is quite spacious.
The bed is large and looks comfortable, the pillows look quite thin. It turns out after our first night that the pillow are way more comfortable and pleasant that we first thought, however Luc found the mattress to be very uncomfortable to sleep on.
On both sides are bedside tables with 2 adaptive power sockets and 2 UBS ports. The alarm clock on one side was so bright at night that we unplugged it.
The room is decorated with beige, grey and blue colors. It was an OK room and large for what we needed it but it didn’t have a cozy warm feeling. Just a convenient hotel room for a couple of days. You can see that this is an older building that has been renovated.
Air conditioning worked very well.
In the wardrobe are cloths hangers, an ironing board, iron, luggage rack, safe and yoga mat.
Overnight laundry and dry cleaning is also available.
The bottles of water in the room are not complimentary and cost $7 each. What a shame is that.
No fridge, kettle or coffee maker in the room. Another shame.
There in an ice machine at the end of the hallway, an ice bucket is in your room.
The acoustics in the hallway were again terrible, despite the carpet floors.
You could literally hear anyone go to or come out of the elevators, whether they were talking or just walking past. As thick as the hotel room door was, it could get quite noisy.
We paid $710 for 3 nights for a Essential King Room with City View here at the Kimpton Everly Hotel.
Bathroom
The bathroom is immediately to your left when you walk into this room.
It is a rather spacious and it looks comfortable.
The walk-in shower is great, the water pressure is excellent and the temperature is easy to control and change.
The shower gel and shampoo were very fragrant and enjoyable. It is not the first time that we see and use these luxury Atelier Bloem bath amenities and they are really great.
There is one large sink in the bathroom with enough space next to it and on the small shelf above it to put your stuff on. A box of Kleenex, cotton buds, cotton pads, hair dryer, extra toilet paper, a bar of hand soap, body lotion and soft towels. The Italian Frette bathrobes feel nice and soft on your skin.
Right next to the sink is the toilet.
Overall a very enjoyable bathroom.
Only negative thing was the milk glass sliding door that makes the entire room light up at night when one of us had to use the bathroom. How stupid is that.
Jane Q restaurant
The Kimpton Everly Hotel has a restaurant on the lobby level.
The Jane Q is open every day for breakfast from 7am until 11am. All day lunch and dinner is available from 11:30am until 10pm. Breakfast fee per hotel guest in $23.
As a guest in the hotel you can also order and go pick your food or have it delivered to your room. All orders are subject to 15% gratuity and $5 delivery fee.
You can check the menu below.
We preferred to grab breakfast somewhere else in the neighbourhood, there a couple of good coffee bars, diners and breakfast spots walking distance from the hotel, we especially enjoyed Clark Street Diner.
Swimming pool
The Kimpton Everly Hotel has a swimming pool, and that is also the reason why we chose this hotel.
It is located above the reception area.
The pool is heated and very enjoyable on a hot LA day.
Around the pool are about 20 sunbeds with umbrellas.
Also around it are several sitting areas with couches and table.
Bath towels are provided but the shelf would often be empty and the laundry basket full.
Near the pool are a couple of drink stations where you can help yourself to free ice water, which is a very nice touch.
Next to the swimming pool area is a large terrace with tables chairs and more couches. It also has an outdoor kitchen and bbq corner. Here is were you can book your private events, wedding ceremonies, receptions and parties.
Watch our video from 3:58 onwards to see what the swimming pool area looks like exactly.
Gym
The gym is located on level -1 below the reception area.
This 24-hour fitness center is fully equipped with Peloton Bikes.
Wifi
The internet connection at the Kimpton Everly Hotel was very good.
Would we go back to Kimpton Everly Hotel in LA?
The reason we booked a room here was the neighbourhood and the swimming pool.
It is the second time we stay in the Sunset Boulevard area and think we would choose another part of town next time.
