Staying at the Pan Pacific London Hotel: what to expect? We loved the swimming pool and their Straits restaurant... But would we recommend this hotel?

Fancy a couple of days in London?

We chose the splendid Pan Pacific London Hotel to stay at.

We are here for a Jeff Beck concert that was supposed to happen 2 years ago.

Due to the pandemic the concert was postponed a few times.

But now it is finally happening!

We only realised a couple of weeks before that we would be in London during the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, which in hindsight wasn’t a problem as we avoided the crowds – except for the concert.

We paid for our stay at the Pan Pacific London Hotel and didn’t get or ask anything in return for this review.

London, here we come!

Video

We made a video of our stay at the Pan Pacific London Hotel.

You can watch it here:

Pan Pacific London Hotel, UK

The Pan Pacific London Hotel is located near Liverpool Street Station.

From the station the hotel is only a 3 minute walk away.

The hotel offers airport transfers upon request.

This neighbourhood is very lively with lots of shops, pubs, restaurants and food markets all around it.

Reception

We arrive at the hotel at 11am.

And we silently hope that our room will be ready, which it turns out to be!

The gentleman behind the reception is extremely friendly, fast and professional.

During the checkin process we ask if he could make a dinner reservation in their Pan Pacific London Hotel’s Straights restaurant that same evening, and he assures us he will do that right away.

He gets us our room keys and arranges for another staff member to take our luggage and see us to our room.

Room

Our room 1309 is located on the 13th floor.

The elevator door opens and we step into a carpeted hallway, our room is located at the end of it.

The staff member opens the door, and places our suitcase on the luggage rack. He wishes us a pleasant stay and closes the door behind him.

This room looks quite large at first sight.

Step inside, the bathroom door is to the left, a cupboard on the right, followed by a coffee and tea corner and bar on both sides of the hallway leading to a large bedroom with couch and floor to ceiling windows.

Bedroom

The bedroom has a funny shape, and looks quite spacious.

The bed in the middle is huge and very comfortable with fluffy pillows.

The room is nicely decorated with grey and blue color touches everywhere. The light flowing in from the large windows makes this room extra lively and enjoyable.

We booked a Deluxe City View room here at the Pan Pacific London Hotel, and we can see part of the 30 St Mary Axe building also known as the Gherkin. The building right in front of us is an office building with both empty and occupied floors.

Not the mind blowing city view we had hoped for.

By the window is a comfy couch, a chair and a small table.

Let’s move back to the hallway.

The wardrobe contains 2 fluffy bathrobes, slippers, an iron board and iron, shoe polisher, clothes brush, safe, laundry bag and flashlight.

Also in the hallway o the left before you reach the bedroom is a tea and coffee corner.

A water boiler, teapot and a Nespresso machine are at your disposal.

In the drawer below are 4 cups and saucers, spoons, sugar, milk pods, a couple of instant coffee packets, 6 Nespresso coffee (2 regular and 4 decaf) capsules and tea bags. Whatever you use is replaced by the housekeeping staff daily.

We would leave a note for them in the morning to give us regular coffee capsules instead of decaf, which was taken care of.

On the opposite side of the coffee corner is a minibar with alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, and sweet and savory snacks.

Anything you need to pour yourself a drink.

Our room was perfectly cleaned every day. Bedsheets were also changed every other day. The Pan Pacific London Hotel also provides a daily turndown service: bed made, slippers placed next to the bed, the ice bucket filled in case you fancy a cool after dinner drink in your room.

In room dining at the Pan Pacific Hotel London is available 24 hours a day, in the room is a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Our room was quiet and comfortable, we didn’t hear a thing.

Bathroom

The bathroom is bright and clean, and very spacious if you ask us.

And then the penny drops that this is a room that is accessible for guests in a wheelchair.

That is also the reason why the toilet and sink are quite low.

We loved the large walkin shower, it had instant hot water and very good water pressure.

The Diptyque bath products were a true delight: so fragrant!

Amenities provided are 2 dental kits, a vanity kit, shower cap and shaving kit.

Towels were so fluffy and soft, excellent quality again. They are changed if you leave them on the floor, even during the turndown service.

Bars and restaurant

On the ground floor level near the reception you can find The Orchid Lounge.

This place is packed in the afternoon for their very popular Superbloom Afternoon Tea.

The Pan Pacific Hotel London also has 3 bars: the Ginger Lily and the Silverleaf for cocktails – and the Straits champagne bar.

Straits Restaurant

We booked a table for dinner on the first night.

Pan Pacific Hotel London’s signature restaurant offers Singaporean all day dining and a delicious choice of Asian delicacies.

You can check the menus here.

The dinner we enjoyed here was amazing.

A delight!

Choosing from the menu was really hard.

We loved the sound of every dish.

In the end we settled for a tasting platter of 5 appetizers (kueh pie tee, chilli prawns, spring rolls, chicken satay, otak otak – £24), and wu xiang rou or traditional five spices Singaporean minced pork with homemade nam jin sauce (£16).

Main: chili soft shell crab for 2 and fried mantou bread (£55).

That crab was explosive, what a feast.

Highly recommendable!

The Straits restaurant is also the place where breakfast is served.

Breakfast at the Pan Pacific London Hotel costs €41 per person and consists of a buffet of all classics such breads, fruits, cold cuts, jams, yogurts, juices etc. You can also have hot items such as eggs cooked to order.

We didn’t have breakfast here since we actually found €82 for 2 per day way too expensive. We would take advantage of the pubs, shops and restaurants around the hotel offering lovely hot breakfast options for a bargain.

Check Pan Pacific Hotel London’s website for their à la carte breakfast menu.

Gym

We never use the gym, however we thought to include a couple of pictures here.

Just because this must be one of the nicest and morst complete hotel gyms we have ever seen.

Not sure what all this gym stuff is here at the Pan Pacific Hotel London, but if you are a gym fanatic then you will enjoy this!

The gym is located on the same level as the spa and swimming pool and is accessible 24/7.

Wellbeing and swimming pool area

The spa area is open from 6:30am until 9pm.

Here you can book treatments and massages.

Or use the sauna and steam rooms. This area has lockers, changing rooms, showers and toilets.

We would come here every morning for a swim in the magnificent infinity pool.

It stretches an impressive 18.5m, and offers a nice panorama over Bishopsgate Plaza. Soft chairs, loungers and couches are present, and so are plenty of towels and (free) bottles of water. You can also order a drink from the menu (not free) that will be brought to you.

We went for a swim every single day while staying at the Pan Pacific Hotel London and found that early morning was the best moment to go, between 7am and 8:30pm.

What a great start of the day, and what a lovely view!

We would practically always have the pool to ourselves. It gets busier after that, and in the afternoon.

The water of the pool is an enjoyable 30 degrees Celsius.

Amazing pool, just wow.

Wifi

The internet connection at the Pan Pacific Hotel London was very fast all over the hotel.

Would we go back to Pan Pacific London Hotel?

Yes, we would definitely come back here.

The location and neighbourhood is great, the rooms are beautiful, the entire Pan Pacific London Hotel is stylish and brand new. And the staff is very professional and friendly.

We also loved the Straits restaurant and the magnificent swimming pool.

Go for it!

Would we recommend Pan Pacific London Hotel?

Yes.

Room prices are quite expensive, we paid €400 per night for our Deluxe City View room. Next time however we would book a room without the view, because we only had a partial view which was a bit of a letdown. Another room type might be slightly lower in price perhaps.

The main reason that we booked the Pan Pacific London Hotel is the swimming pool. Not a lot of good hotels here in London have one.

Pros

  • great location
  • stylish rooms
  • fantastic swimming pool
  • delicious Straits hotel restaurant
  • very professional staff

Cons

  • very expensive breakfast
  • partial city view
