Review: 5* hotel La Demeure Montaigne, Paris (France)
In search of a stylish and comfortably located hotel in the heart of Paris, we booked La Demeure Montaigne. Did this hotel meet our expectations?
Fancy a couple of days in Paris?
Even though we are gold status members in the French Accor hotel group, we felt like trying out a more upscale hotel in an area of Paris we hadn’t stayed in yet.
Five star hotel La Demeure Montaigne is the hotel that looked the closest to our wishes after doing a search on Booking.com.
What we were after: great location, excellent reviews, stylish and cozy rooms – and the most important: a swimming pool.
We booked 5 nights here and paid about 380 euros per night, plus 3,75 euros city tax per person per night.
We paid for our stay at hotel La Demeure Montaigne and didn’t get or ask anything in return for this review.
Paris, here we come!
5* Hotel La Demeure Montaigne
Hotel La Demeure Montaigne is located in the 8th district.
In walking distance are a few iconics places such as the Champs-Élysées shopping avenue and the Eiffel Tower, which is about 25 minutes away and the Arc de Triomphe, a 15 minutes walk from the hotel.
The closest metro stops are George V (yellow line #1), Franklin D. Roosevelt (yellow line #1 and green line #9) and Alma Marceau (green line #9).
This neighbourhood is surrounded by lots of restaurants, bars and designer shops.
Parking
Hotel La Demeure Montaigne does not have a private parking area but provides its clients with a valet service.
There is a public parking right around the corner: parking Marbeuf Champs-Elysées, rue Marbeuf.
Price is €30 per night.
Reception
We arrive at Paris North station (Gare du Nord) by Thalys train.
From there we take a Bolt car, the local Uber service. Uber also operates in Paris, we used both during our stay. Prices are just the same.
About half an hour later we arrive at our hotel, La Demeure Montaigne.
A valet steps outside promptly and takes our luggage inside.
Three impeccably dressed and super friendly receptionists greet us with a big smile, both in English and French.
One of them checks our reservation. It is 11:30am and our room is not ready yet, which is to be expected. She assures us that we can return at 1pm and the room will be available.
We leave our luggage behind in their storage room, get a luggage ticket and head out for a walk and a bite to eat.
Room
Back at the hotel after a long walk and a good lunch.
We get our room keys, return our luggage ticket and one of the valet attendants retrieves our suitcase. He walks us to the elevator all the way up to the second floor where our room is.
He briefly explains a few things in the room and wishes us a pleasant stay.
Our room 216 is a double standard room facing the inside blue courtyard of the building, and is located right next to the elevator.
Bedroom
At first sight it isn’t a spacious room, but enough for 2 people.
The bed in the middle looks huge and very comfortable with fluffy pillows.
The room is nicely decorated with light brown, gold, beige and green color touches. The yellow hue from the lights makes this room extra cozy and enjoyable.
By the window are 2 comfy chairs and a small table. There is also a small desk in the corner.
The TV is hidden in the round mirror opposite the bed.
This hotel went through 7 years of renovation work before finally opening in November 2021, so everything is brand new. The entire room is tastefully decorated, no effort nor expense was spared clearly.
But then for 380 euros a night you can expect something this nice, right.
Also in the room is a tea and coffee corner.
4 Illy capsules are provided, and a Nespresso machine.
A water boiler, Damman tea bags, sugar and milk cups are also available.
In the fridge are 2 complementary bottles of chilled water, Evian still water and Badoit sparkling water.
Coffee, tea and water is refilled daily.
We really appreciate that.
2 proper coffee mugs and 2 water glasses are also in the room.
The safe in the cupboard is large enough for a laptop.
Right above it is a hairdryer, 2 shoe horns, 2 pairs of slippers, a list and paper bag for laundry service, shoe polish – and in the cupboard next to it an ironing board and iron.
Our room was perfectly cleaned every day. Bedsheets were also changed daily, which is not necessary but still a nice touch.
The bed didn’t just look comfortable, it was great. We slept really well. The pillows were not too soft nor too firm.
As our room was located right next to the elevator, we could often hear the ‘whooosh’ sound of the lift cabin as it went up and down, and the ding when it stopped on our floor.
It didn’t bother us but if you are sensitive to that, just ask for a room further down the hallway.
Bathroom
The bathroom looks bright and clean.
Again not a very spacious room but very practical and well designed.
We loved the walkin shower, it was great and enjoyable after a long walk. Instant hot water and good water pressure.
The small window in the wall is very handy to put soap and personal items on.
The Thalgo bath products were fragrant and replenished daily.
Towels were changed as well, whether you put them on the floor or not.
The bathrobes were soft and warm.
Just great.
Bar and lounge
On the ground floor level is also a tastefully decorated lounge area.
Next to it is a spacious bar – called the Oval bar with a comfortable sitting area on both sides.
It is a charming and inviting space with warm Roche Bobois sofas where you can grab a pre dinner drink, snacks or a nightcap before going to bed.
The La Demeure Montaigne’s bar is open from Monday to Thursday from 5pm to midnight, on Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 1am.
Restaurant
Further behind the Oval bar is La Demeure Montaigne’s restaurant, l’Envolée.
It is located in the hotel’s inner courtyard and has a glass roof that reflects the blue color from the inner walls. The restaurant’s name (l’Envolée, which means roughly flying away in French) refers to the metal artwork on top of the glass roof, depicting birds flying from the bar up to the sky. A piece of art created by sculptor François Lavrat.
Here you can go for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Breakfast consists of a good quality buffet with the classics such bread, fruits, cold cuts, jams etc. You can have eggs cooked freshly on the spot as well. Breakfast costs €29 per person.
We didn’t have breakfast here since we were visiting friends living close by who would take us into the city from morning until evening.
Check the La Demeure Montaigne’s website for more information about the lunch and dining menu and booking a table.
Other facilities
On the same level near the elevator is a leisure room.
It contains a pool table, comfy chairs and a chess table.
Opposite is a small internet corner with a laptop, phone and printer you can use if you need to.
Wellness and spa area
One level down is the wellness area.
It is open from 7am until 10 pm.
Here you can book treatments and massages. Behind the desk is a small fitness room for everyone to use.
Left is the Thalgo spa, and on the right is the wellness area.
It consists of a swimming pool area with jacuzzi and small lounge. Next to it is the shower area with sauna and hammam. Refreshing drinks, tea and small snacks are available.
We went for a swim every day and found that early morning was the best moment to go, around 9am. We would practically always have the pool to ourselves. It gets a bit busier towards the end of the afternoon and early evening.
The water of the pool is an enjoyable 31 degrees Celsius, the jacuzzi was much warmer and fantastic.
Wifi
The internet connection at La Demeure Montaigne was speedy all over the hotel.
Access was easy, no password or username required.
Would we go back to hotel La Demeure Montaigne?
Yes, we would definitely come back here.
The location and neighbourhood is great, the rooms are beautiful, the entire hotel is stylish and brand new. And the staff is very professional and friendly.
Would we recommend La Demeure Montaigne?
Yes.
The room rates might be a big high but they are still reasonably good for Paris, and for what you get in return.
Pros

- professional staff
- indoor swimming pool and wellness area
