The modern HasHotel looks like the perfect stylish stay in Hasselt! But does it live up to its expectations? Not fully.

The modern HasHotel looks like the perfect stylish stay in Hasselt! But does it live up to its expectations? Not fully.

During lockdown we decided to visit Belgium more.

Last week we were in Mechelen.

This time we decide to go to an area and province we hardly go to normally.

Limburg, the easternmost province in Flanders.

Its capital is Hasselt, and we decide to make this town our basecamp for a couple of days.

HasHotel Hasselt

Our search for a hotel doesn’t take long.

The HasHotel seems to have everything we like: it is modern, looks stylish and has excellent customer reviews.

We book a Deluxe Suite for €173 per night, breakfast and taxes included.

Video

We made a video of the HasHotel.

You can watch it here:

Parking

The hotel does not have its own parking space on the spot.

Guests can park their car for free at a parking lot about 400 metres further. There is also a possibility to rent a closed garage box which costs €10 per night.

You can email the hotel for further directions on how to get there and to make a reservation.

There is also a large public underground parking lot next the hotel, called the Q Park TT. HasHotel is just around the corner, a one minute walk from the parking lot.

We parked our car there for 2 nights and paid €28.

Reception

The HasHotel reception is located on the first floor.

You can reach it by elevator or stairs.

The hotel lobby is in one word beautiful.

The large windows make this space very bright and sparkling.

On your right is a set of comfortable couches.

Surrounding it is a colorful and stylish collection of coffee tables and lots of plants. Absolutely gorgeous.

The reception staff is very friendly and helpful.

We get our room key, and an invitation for a complimentary glass of wine whenever we like.

Bar and lounge

A small bar area is on the left with high chairs.

Here you can enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee.

Right in front of the reception desk is an outdoor sitting area to enjoy your drink if the weather is good.

Room

Room 16 is on the same floor as the reception.

The door opens to a small hallway, on the right is a dressing with wardrobe that leads to the bathroom.

The room is spacious, the light coming from the windows makes it extra bright.

Bedroom

The bedroom consists of a large bed with bedside tables, a sitting area with a couch, coffee table and 2 chairs, coffee corner, and a desk.

It is a very comfortably sized room, we love the space we have.

The bed, duvet and pillows are perfect and of good quality.

The room looks great, however if you look closer there are a few things that need to be taken care of.

The wall paper in the hallway is coming off the wall in a few places.

Same for the wallpaper next to the bed.

Corners here and there haven’t been finished. A few touches of paint here and there would do wonders.

The white couch has water stains on it, it doesn’t look very inviting.

Bathroom

The bathroom is white and bright.

It consists of a toilet, walkin shower and a sink.

The body products are excellent, the towels are soft.

But here again the corners need painting and finishing.

The bottom part of the shower wall is discoloured and could to with a good clean.

Other services

There is an espresso machine in the room, which we love.

With it come 4 capsules, perfect.

In the fridge are 4 bottles of complimentary water, and 2 chocolate treats.

The water and coffee is restocked daily which is great.

Noise

HasHotel calls its rooms soundproof.

Our room was far from it.

The noise from the street was quite loud, both from cars and people walking past.

We could also hear everyone walk past our door in the hallway, and even hear people talk in the reception area which is on the same level around the corner.

Fair to say that we did not sleep very well.

Breakfast

The breakfast room is at ground level, on the right hand side when you take the elevator to go up to the HasHotel reception on the first floor.

This breakfast room is for hotel guests only.

If you are not a guest, you can still have breakfast here as of 7am which is served in the hotel restaurant next door.

This is the first hotel breakfast buffet since the pandemic, no takeaway breakfast in the room anymore since indoor eating areas are open again.

The breakfast room is again tastefully decorated.

We especially liked the comfortable boots to sit in.

After a member of staff asks our room number, we sit down. Coffee or tea is brought to our table.

There is a breakfast buffet to choose from, eggs can be ordered.

The buffet looks great, and it tastes great as well.

Everything is fresh, nicely plated and put on display.

We love the smoked salmon, yogurt, fruits and cold cuts. The bread is super crunchy and fresh.

Absolutely delicious, very fresh good quality ingredients and produce.

Excellent coffee as well.

We order fried eggs with bacon, which get to our table after we have almost finished breakfast actually. We ask the staff 3 times about our eggs, in the end apparently the eggs were “misplaced”.

The next day we order eggs again.

Scrambled eggs for me, and they are delicious.

Luc asks for an omelet but apparently it is only possible to get scrambled eggs, fried eggs and soft boiled eggs.

No omelets here, weird.

Restaurant

HasHotel has its own restaurant, Bragout.

It is located right next to the breakfast room, and is open to everyone. It has an outdoor seating area as well.

We didn’t have dinner here, however the reviews about Bragout are great.

Wifi

The free wifi in the room and throughout HasHotel is excellent.

Location

The hotel’s location is great.

Close to the shopping street, lots of restaurants, bars and the city centre.

Easy underground parking just around the corner is also a plus.

Would we go back to HasHotel?

If we visit Hasselt again, we would choose another hotel.

It is a stylish hotel, however the room wasn’t perfect and quite noisy. The price we paid per night is quite steep for what we got.

There are a couple of hotels right next door we would go to.

Would we recommend HasHotel?

We would definitely recommend the breakfast, but not the hotel.

Pros

  • excellent breakfast
  • modern and stylish hotel
  • spacious rooms
  • great location

Cons

  • noisy room
  • lacks finishing touches
  • shower needs a deep clean
