Why add sugar to coleslaw?
Sugar is often added to coleslaw to balance out the acidity and bitterness of the raw cabbage and to add a touch of sweetness to the dish.
The sweetness of the sugar helps to round out the flavors of the coleslaw and gives it a more well-balanced taste.
In addition to adding sweetness, sugar also helps to soften the texture of the cabbage and other vegetables in the coleslaw, making it more tender and easier to chew.
The amount of sugar that is added to coleslaw can vary depending on personal preference and the other ingredients that are being used.
Some people like their coleslaw to be sweeter, while others prefer it to be more savory.
Is coleslaw healthy?
Yes, coleslaw can be a healthy part of a balanced diet.
It is low in calories and contains vitamins such as vitamins A and C, as well as dietary fiber.
However, it is important to watch out for the added sugar and fat found in pre-made coleslaw and fast food dressings, which can significantly increase the calorie and fat content.
You can leave the sugar in our copycat coleslaw recipe from KFC out of course.
But goes without saying that the flavor will obviously not be the same.
It is up to you!
