Review: ‘t Maashuys holiday home in Lanaken, Belgium
We stayed 4 nights in holiday home ‘t Maashuys for a midweek getaway. Here is what we think of it and what you can expect.
We are huge fans of renting holiday homes.
Especially if we plan on being away for a couple of days on end.
How about you?
In April we decide to visit Limburg, the easternmost province in Flanders, Belgium. The region around the river Meuse is great for walking and cycling.
We found holiday home ’t Maashuys in Lanaken on Booking.com. It was one of the only properties that met our requirements after fine tuning our online search.
The reviews left by other guests were great, the pictures and description of this holiday home looked fine to us.
Reservation
Booking.com is our favorite to book a holiday.
We immediately receive a confirmation email to let us know that our reservation for 4 nights was successful. The email also contains further contact information of the owner, and the exact address of the holiday home.
Host
Less than half an hour later owner Sophie also sends us an email with extra information about ’t Maashuys, and to confirm that our preferred checkin time is fine for her.
Video review
We made a video about ‘t Maashuys:
Location
’t Maashuys is very easy to find.
There is enough space to park in front of the home.
Sophie, the very friendly owner, shows up the minute we get there as she lives in the house right next door.
She lets us in, shows us around swiftly. Gives us some addiction information about the house and area, and leaves us to unpack and settle in.
First impressions
We immediately like ’t Maashuys.
It is exactly like on the pictures. The house is renovated recently and has been rented out for just a couple of months.
The ground floor consists of a hallway and staircase, on the left a large kitchen and dining area, on the right a large living room. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. ’t Maashuys has floor heating on both levels, and polished concrete floors.
Kitchen and dining area
The large kitchen and dining area is tastefully furnished.
Near the front window is a large oval wooden table with 6 comfortable chairs. The kitchen looks very new as if it has not been used a lot. There is a large gas stove with oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment.
The many drawers contain anything you need in a kitchen.
Cutlery, pots and pans, wine cooler, chopping boards, bowls, baking dishes, cling film, plenty of cups, plates in all sizes, plastic cups, plates and cutlery for small kids. Water boiler, a coffee machine for Nespresso capsules and a pour over coffee maker.
Sophie was kind enough to leave a couple of useful amenities: tea bags, sugar and coffee cream, a sleeve of 10 Nespresso capsules, a small bottle of olive oil, a pepper and salt mill, fresh basil, chives and mint, a bottle of red wine, crisps, a bottle of water and orange juice.
Kitchen paper, dishwasher tablets, kitchen towels, dishcloths, sponges, dishwashing soap, hand soap, extra garbage bags.
There is a separate toilet with sink in the kitchen area as well.
You can find useful tourist information and leaflets next to the dining table about things to see and visit in the area.
Living room
The white and black interior is something you will find all over ’t Maashuys.
The spacious living area consists of 2 comfy couches, a comfortable chair, rug and TV. On the other side is another large table with 6 chairs.
There are a couple of board games o the cupboard in the corner as well.
Garden
In the morning the sun comes up at the front side of ’t Maashuys, in the evening you can enjoy the sunset at the back. There is a wooden picnic table if the weather is warm enough to have a meal.
The shed in the garden is perfect to securely store bikes you bring.
Bathroom
The bright white bathroom contains a spacious walk in shower, a double sink vanity and a toilet.
There are plenty of small and large towels and toilet paper. Also in the bathroom: hand soap, shower gel, dental kits, sewing kits and a hairdryer.
The water pressure in the shower is excellent.
Bedrooms
’t Maashuys is suitable for 6 people.
All 3 bedrooms had large double beds and on both sides bedside tables, nightstand lamps and an extra socket for phone chargers.
The 2 bedroom on the frontside of the house have a TV, the bedroom at the back doesn’t.
WiFi
WiFi is complimentary.
The reception was great downstairs but weak upstairs, even with the extra router in the back bedroom.
Air conditioning
At this moment ‘t Maashuys has 3 mobile air conditioning units.
The owner told us that air cons will be installed throughout the house soon to be ready for summer guests since it can get quite hot on the first floor during summer months.
What do we think of ’t Maashuys?
This holiday home is well renovated, very clean and tastefully furnished and decorated. We had everything we needed. The kitchen is well equipped.
We felt right at home here.
Owner Sophie is very welcoming, helpful and friendly. She was always fast in communicating through email and text message.
Would we go back to ’t Maashuys?
Yes, definitely and we recommend it.
Not only the holiday home is great. The area is beautiful as well, perfect for walks and bike rides.
We loved going out for walks in the evening sun along the banks of the river Meuse and walk amongst the wild horses and cattle grazing there.
The river also attracts lots of swans, herons, grebes, cormorants, ducks and geese.
Across the river is The Netherlands. Due to corona restrictions we were not able to cross the border. However we would go back for walks and bike rides on that side as well.
There are 2 supermarkets in the vicinity, and 2 baker shops.
Yes, our stay at ’t Maashuys was the perfect midweek getaway.
We can’t wait to go back.
